Crazy Climbing Baby

24 Mar

Apparently Ruby takes after Matty’s brother, her Uncle Dave. He was a climber too.

30

23 Mar

I turned 30 today.

It was a good occasion to reflect on life, but a bad day to do so–the movers were here packing at 7:45 and the second they left I had to get Ruby and myself ready for our friend Suzanne’s wedding rehearsal (Ruby is the flower girl and I will be singing).

However, amidst the chaos I did pause a few times to think about how truly blessed I am, and how much I am looking forward to this next year. I also got the best gift ever when my better half got to transfer from his job a few days early and thereby will be spending the weekend with us when he was originally supposed to be out to sea! Hooray!

I completely forgot about pictures today until we were at the rehearsal dinner, where there was terrible lighting. The first one is of Ruby getting a hug from her new friend, Elijah. The second is of me with my sweet girl.

22 Mar

Our movers came today to start packing the unfathomable amount of stuff we have. Ruby spent quite a bit of the day outside, playing with her Auntie Lauren (Matty’s cousin), and inside playing with one of her super-cute birthday gifts.

The movers are coming tomorrow to start packing us up for the move to Alexandria, so the last few weeks have been pretty chaotic. Ruby and Cash have grown closer through the craziness–Cash gets several Ruby hugs every day.

Our silly baby, always on the move.

Check-up

19 Mar

Ruby had her 12 month check-up today. She is now 29 inches long (46th percentile) and weighs 19 lb 2 oz (21ist percentile).

This was a tough visit because she got her TB test, three shots (it was going to be four but i nixed the chicken pox vaccine), and had her finger pricked for an iron test and a lead test. The iron test was no problem–it was very quick–but they needed a lot of blood for the lead test and had to squeeze it, drop by drop, out of her finger. Ruby was miserable. I felt terrible.

Her iron test came back very low (9.2) so they redid it and the second test was the same, so we are starting her on an iron supplement. The doctor was very perplexed by her iron deficiency because she has so much energy and great color. Hopefully the supplement will help and her iron will be up at her next appointment.

Stick

18 Mar

Ruby got all sorts of beautiful birthday gifts a few days ago. What did she want to play with today? Her piƱata stick.
