Vacuuming

30 Dec

Auntie Rebecca, Uncle Ronny, Megan, Ricky, Jenna, and Ben gave Ruby a vacuum cleaner for Christmas. She is, of course, obsessed with it and particularly loved helping Daddy with the vacuuming today.

Rainbow Baby

28 Dec

In the aftermath of my devastating miscarriage on September 11th, I did a ton of research about grieving over lost babies, the likelihood of future miscarriages, and getting pregnant again.  It was comforting to read about other women who had been in my situation before, but my heart broke for those who were going through the pain of one or multiple miscarriages without the comfort of already having a sweet baby to cling to.  I learned that a baby conceived following a miscarriage is referred to as a “rainbow baby;” the beautiful miracle following a storm.

Matty and I are thrilled to be expecting our own rainbow baby in June.  I was delighted to find out that I was pregnant again and shocked when my midwife told me how far along I was.  I am now almost 16 weeks along and we are all so excited to meet our new baby this summer!ImageImage

Turnpike

27 Dec

Today was a little bit trying. It started out great, with a lovely breakfast at Matty’s Aunt Jill’s house. We got on the road back to Virginia at 9:30, leaving plenty of time for me to make it to a 2:30 appointment. Around 10:30 we were driving down the New Jersey Turnpike in Matty’s FJ Cruiser, packed to the gills with Christmas gifts. Ruby had finally stopped screaming and fallen asleep when we saw break lights. We sat for well over an hour, barely crawling along until we finally passed the terrible accident that had caused the crash. Ruby was miserable for most of the trip so Matty and I were too.

I had to reschedule my appointment, my nerves were frayed by the time we got home and the task of unpacking completely overwhelmed me. Then I found out that a family of three from Georgia had died in the terrible crash and it put things in perspective. How lucky I am to have a healthy, sweet little girl and wonderful husband. We had a rough few hours but that paled in comparison to the happy life we live.

A Few

26 Dec

We had a wonderful Christmas here in New Jersey and hope you all did too.

Here are a few pictures from the last few days, mostly taken by Popsie.

Gingerbread House

21 Dec

Ruby had so much fun “decorating” (read: eating candy while Tio and Mom-Mom decorated) her gingerbread house today.

Ruby & Jenna

19 Dec

Matty and I met our friends Todd and Brandis for dinner in Manhattan tonight. On our walk from Penn Station to the restaurant (Cask, which was awesome), we saw this sign and just had to take a picture:

Of course it made us think of our Ruby and her sweet cousin Jenna. They love each other so much and have such fun together. Here is a picture of them together in California on Christmas Eve last year (they just happened to have matching dresses). I can’t believe how little they both look compared to now!

Chopsticks

18 Dec

Mom-Mom and Popsie took us out for sushi tonight and Ruby decided to try her hand at chopsticks. She did pretty well and was delighted with herself.

Santa Part 2

17 Dec

I don’t have access to a scanner right now so I took a picture of Ruby’s Santa picture with my iPhone. This really captures Ruby’s experience–Santa was great and so nice but Ruby just couldn’t quite get into the joyful Christmas spirit.
